Disclaimers

Below is the Matted Dog Disclaimer, which you are required to sign before a groom can occur.

Under the Animal Welfare Act, 2006, it is an offence to cause unnecessary suffering to an animal. This includes prolonged 'de-matting', which in painful and detrimental to the welfare of your dog. If you bring in your dog with more than 20 minutes of de-matting work, I am required by the Act to clip your dog short humanely or refer you to your vet to do the same, At Mabel's Mutts, I will only attempt to de-matt 5% of a dog, which equates to about a 50p sized matt behind each ear, same size in the armpits and perhaps one or two in the groin or tail area.

If I have assessed your dog's coat and find it to be matted, I will need to clip it short. Matting can be prevented by daily brushing with a slicker brush. I will be happy to explain the correct way to brush your dog and suggest a grooming programme that will allow me to achieve the look you would like for your dog. This may involve more frequent visits to me and will certainly involve daily grooming at home.

When a dog's coat becomes matted, it causes discomfort as the matts pull tightly on the skin and underlying health conditions may not be visible. When a matted coat is clipped short, it may occasionally reveal sore, reddened and irritated skin. This is due to the fact that the skin has not been able to breathe. Clipping a matted coat can take longer and cause additional wear and tear on my equipment, so a further fee of £10 may be charged in addition to the normal groom price.

Your signature on this form confirms that you have given me permission for your dog's coat to be clipped short if matting is present and cannot be brushed out. Your signature also confirms that you accept that any personal preference for how your dog should be groomed will not be taken into consideration as I will only do what is best for your dog. Any irritation to your dog's skin is likely due to the removal of a matted coat and is not the responsibility of your groomer, Chloe. On the rare occasion that this occurs, you may need to seek veterinary advice.
